You'll find all kinds of useful information here for aspiring and experiences Utah real estate agents alike.

As with most all careers, being a real estate agent requires more than just one solitary skill. A successful real estate agent possesses both people skills and time management. Successful real estate agents are able to establish rapport quickly with others, understand their client’s needs, and then provide effective solutions. A real estate agent must be able to form collaborative relationships while also being able to work autonomously to meet clients’ expectations.

Benefits of being in the real estate industry include the freedom to manage your own schedule and be your own boss. However, this requires a lot of self-discipline, drive, time management, and organizational skills. Real estate agents also need to be able to market themselves and showcase their services in order to get or keep clients.

To become a licensed real estate agent in the state of Utah, one must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Meet the statutory licensing qualifications of honesty, integrity, truthfulness, reputation, and competency
  • Be at least 18 years of age when applying
  • Have a minimum of a High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Complete 120 hours of approved education at a certified Real Estate Pre-License School (must be completed no longer than one year before applying for a real estate license)
  • Pass the Sales Agent licensing exam
  • Submit an application with all required documents to the Division- you can find a checklist at https://realestate.utah.gov/real-estate/

All real estate sales agents and brokers must be licensed. This means that anyone who offers to aid in the purchase, sale, lease, management, or exchange of another person’s property in return for monetary compensation must first be properly licensed.

The time it takes to become a licensed Utah real estate agent will vary depending on which route you take. It is required by the state of Utah to take 120 hours of pre-licensing education, after which you still have further steps to take before becoming fully licensed. It is possible to complete your pre-licensing education in as little as 15 days, however, this requires 8 credit hours per day. Once completed, the certificate is good for one year. You will want to take and pass the state exam, as well as apply for your real estate license, within the year time frame.

When entering the real estate profession, there are bound to be start-up costs. Becoming a real estate agent is similar to opening your own business. It is always recommended to make smart financial decisions and work with an experienced tax adviser to keep track of all tax-deductible expenses.

The following expenses can be expected (on average):

  • Pre-licensing Education Tuition Costs- ranging from Free to $500
  • State Licensing Exam- $66
  • Licensing Fee for the First Two-Year Period- $154 (this also includes the cost of fingerprinting and background check)
  • Multiple Listing Service initial application fee and monthly fees- minimum of $38 per month
  • 18 continuing education courses spread out over each renewal period (2 years)- an average rate of $10 per credit hour.
  • Start-up costs for business cards, signs, etc.

It is important to remember that you will be self-employed and therefore, your work hours are flexible. As a real estate agent, you must set your own schedule and determine how much time you want to invest in the industry. Typically, working real estate agents report having anywhere from 20-40 hours of work per week depending on their availability.

The average salary for a real estate agent is between $60,000-80,000 per year. As mentioned above, this will depend greatly on the amount of work and hours you put into your real estate career.

In real estate, continuing education refers to the educational requirements that licensees must obtain before the end of each renewal period. To maintain an active real estate license, the appropriate number of classes must be taken from an approved real estate education source. Every state has different requirements when it comes to what courses are needed and how many hours of education are required for each renewal cycle.

The continuing education requirements for Utah real estate agents are set by The Division of Real Estate. You must complete 18 credit hours of approved courses within each 2-year period. There are many different options and courses to choose from, although there are some required continuing education courses as well. You can also choose whether to complete your classes in person or through an online format.

One of the required courses for all real estates sales agents is a 3-hour division-approved mandatory course. If this is your first time renewing your real estate license, your will also need to take the 12-hour New Agent Course as part of your total 18 hours. Other credit hours cover topics including ethics and professional conduct, comparative market analysis (CMA), commercial real estate, property management, short sales, risk management, fair housing laws, and more.

Utah Real Estate School

Is your heart set on becoming a real estate agent? Are you ready to earn your Utah real estate license and begin your journey on a new career path? There are a few questions you’ll surely want to answer before jumping in. For example, what real estate school will you attend? How much will it cost? How long does it take? There is plenty to think about! So, let’s jump in and find the answers to these questions, plus many more!

In-Person vs. Online Real Estate School

There are many options when choosing which real estate school to attend! The school itself doesn’t necessarily have to be located in the state of Utah either, especially if it’s online. In fact, that’s one of the first things you’ll want to think about- what kind of school you would like to attend. Are you the type of student that prefers attending classes in-person, held in a physical classroom? If this sounds like you, then enrolling in a utah real estate school that requires you to attend in person might be best for you. If you are looking for more flexibility and learn better through self-study, then online real estate school might be more your speed. The decision is entirely up to you and your learning style!

Choosing the Best Utah Real Estate School for You

The world is full of different real estate schools, so how do you know which one to enroll in? There are a few things to think about including the cost, the time commitment required, and what other students have said about the quality of real estate education available. Make sure you know what to anticipate after graduation and that you do your homework before picking a school. You want to be confident in your decision before diving in deeper!

Consider how your needs, wants, and desires differ from those of someone else. What may work best for one person might not be the best option for you. It’s critical to find the right balance that works with your unique lifestyle. This is why it’s essential to take a look at a variety of different Utah real estate schools before making your final decision. There are many excellent schools available, so it’s important to understand what sets them apart and how they can benefit you personally. Now let’s dive into some additional things you’ll want to consider as you narrow down your list of possible real estate schools!

Cost of Utah Real Estate School

Since the cost of pre-licensing education varies so much, one of the first questions you should ask yourself is how much you can realistically afford for real estate school. Your income may rise as you work and develop as a real estate agent in the future. But for right now, you won’t want to go too crazy out of your budget to get the ball rolling.

On average, you can expect to pay between $200-500 for pre-licensing real estate education. This will greatly depend on which real estate school you enroll in. In many cases, attending an online real estate school will cost less than an in-person institution. However, it’s always important to verify since each school will have different course offerings available for a range of prices. At Arti Academics we offer free online Utah real estate schooling.

Time Commitment of Utah Real Estate School

The next point you’ll want to consider is the time commitment is for completing a real estate school program. After all, they say time is money right? So you may want to ask yourself these questions: How long will it take you to finish your real estate courses? Will you be able to complete it in your spare time between the other demands of your personal life or current job? Different schools may offer different lengths of the program. Some may offer a short-term course, while others may have you in class for several months before you can take the Real Estate Exam.

The state of Utah requires a minimum of 120 hours of pre-licensing education in order to take the Utah Real Estate Exam. On average, completion of pre-licensing real estate education school can take anywhere from six weeks to three months. Again, this will greatly depend on which school you enroll in, which individual courses you choose to take, and your overall learning style. It will also depend on the number of exam preparation courses and practice exams you feel comfortable taking. You may have a different pace than someone else, and that’s okay! In the end, just be sure to ask about the time commitment when researching potential real estate schools to find something that fits into your schedule and desired time frame.

Convenience Factors

Consider any other perks the Utah real estate school has to offer, especially in terms of convenience. If you want the flexibility to work on your own but still desire additional in-person assistance as needed, look for a real estate institution that offers support centers in the area near you. Make sure they provide plenty of student support, so you don’t leave yourself stranded working your courses solo! As mentioned before, be sure to ask about the number of support centers available. Check for locations nearby where you live. Do they have a help desk, online chatrooms, or support team members who are easily accessible by email, live chat, or phone? How quickly do they respond to inquiries submitted by their students? Do they provide any live test preparation opportunities? These smaller details are important and can really help make or break a student’s overall school experience.

Another benefit of living in today’s world is technology on the go. If you choose to go the online real estate school route, you might want to see if the school you choose provides the option to complete coursework on an app through your smart device. This would mean you wouldn’t necessarily have to be glued to your computer if you didn’t want to be. You could access the app while on the go and work on your real estate courses anywhere you have internet access. You could take a cross-country road trip and still complete your real estate coursework on time- talk about convenience!

Reviews From Past Students

Something else you’ll want to research along the way is what other students have said about the different Utah real estate school options you are looking into. Make a point of reading through student evaluations and ratings, as well as past students’ testimonials. This might provide you with an idea of what previous people have experienced during their time at the real estate school. If there seem to be a lot of complaints, try to resolve them by speaking with the school directly. If this doesn’t help, you might think about selecting a different school. You want to choose a real estate school that students have been happy with in the past! It’s quite probable that no Utah real estate school will be without flaws, but reading through the reviews can give you a good overall picture of past student satisfaction.

Feel free to take things a step further by reaching out to past students and talking to them about their school experience. This could be particularly helpful if you’re having a hard time deciding on which real estate school to go to. Who knows- you may even come across a neighbor or acquaintance that has completed their real estate agent pre-licensing education through the same school. It can’t hurt to reach out to those around you, make some connections, and see what you find!

What It Takes to Become a Utah Real Estate Agent

The requirements for working as a real estate agent vary from state to state, so it’s important to check what your state will need. Most states will require pre-licensing real estate education, a passing score on the licensing exam, and then a signed real estate license for the state you’ll be working in. The state of Utah requires approximately six steps to have a real estate career:

1) Must Meet Utah’s Standard Legal Requirements

This means you need to be a citizen of the United States or a lawfully admitted resident, at least 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or GED.

2) Completion of Required Pre-licensing Education

Utah requires a minimum of 120 hours of pre-licensing education covering a variety of required real estate topics.

3) Take and Pass the Utah Real Estate Exam

The exam is composed of both national and state-specific questions. It must be passed with a 70% or higher.

4) Get Fingerprinted and Background Checked

This is now required for all Utah real estate license applicants.

5). Choose a Real Estate Company to Work For

If you wish to hold an active real estate license in the state of Utah, you must associate it with a sponsoring brokerage company.

6) Apply for a Utah Real Estate License

Upload the required documents for the real estate application and pay the $157 non-refundable application fee. If submitted correctly, it will then take approximately four to six weeks to receive your Utah real estate license.

The process can take some time and effort but is relatively straightforward. It takes hard work and dedication to be a successful real estate agent, especially when you consider that a large portion of the job is learning how to promote yourself to potential buyers and sellers. To be successful as a real estate agent, you’ll need to be able to work under pressure and deal with difficult circumstances.

Customer service abilities are, as in many other occupations, an essential part of being a real estate agent. You will need to be personable and approachable when working with clients and customers. This is especially true if you want your career as a real estate agent to be long-term and successful, which is the overall goal! When you’re dealing with life inside the real estate business, you’ll also need to be able to handle stress well. This implies knowing how to multitask and continue to work and thrive under pressure.

Ready to Get Started on Your Utah Real Estate License?

Working as a real estate agent and beginning your Utah real estate career doesn’t have to be intimidating. This is especially true if you choose the right school for you to gain the skills, knowledge, and training you’ll need in the fast-paced real estate industry. Of course, the best school to attend is one that helps you learn, prepare, and practice the skills needed for your real estate licensing exam. As mentioned before, this is why it’s so important to seek out a school that provides live exam prep opportunities. Preparation throughout your real estate classes, on your own time, and at your own pace makes a huge difference. Any assistance on how to apply what you’ve learned in real-life scenarios for your future career is also valuable. With the right education and support network in place, you’ll know how to market yourself well, handle difficult situations with ease, and keep your stress levels low.
